Browning of Zion Zoysia

| My 1/2 acre Zion Zoysia lawn in its third summer, is again having the problem of large areas of browning. When this happened last summer I treated it with a fungicide with little or no results. This year I thought that maybe the lawn wasn't getting enough water so I measured the sprinkler system output. Although the summers have been very dry here at Canyon Lake the last two years, the sprinkler output measured at least 0.3", Mon, Wed, and Fri, in brown and green areas.
Landscape folks in the area plead ignorance to characteristics of this variety of Zoysia, saying only that it may be lack of water or a fungal disease? Could this grass be intolerant of our hot sun? It is beautifully green in the shade of the live oak trees! |

| The first question that comes to my mind is one of nitrogen fertility. What is the annual amount? Second, describe the large brown spots. How large are they? Do they have a distintive pattern? I need some srot of picture here to help. |

| I fertilize three times per year on 1 Mar, 1 May and (1 Jul), with Scotts Turf Builder (23% N), at rate of 4# (of fertilizer)/1000 sq'. There are six large brown areas currently in the 150' X 150' lawn. These areas are more round than square and vary from about 10' to 30' in dia. Some have now intersected. I will try to attach photos if I can figure out how! Some of the (orangish brown) areas are in the same location as last year, some are new. Total area is larger this year. |

| I've got the same looking Zion Zoysia lawn in Georgetown, Texas. Have you learned anything new on this situation? I'm at a loss as well. I'm watering daily for 15 min. Mike |
