i say if you are going to use it alot get the gas model. my drive is 150' long, plus i have a turn around area and the front sidewalk is ~75' and the back is another 60'. i tried using an electric weedeater with the head turned to edge, and honestly got tired of fighting with the cords. then i got a gas weedeater and love it. now i weedeat only about 1 time a month, with round up! between having over 600 linear ft of concrete to edge and close to 60 trees spread over 4 acres, i just don't have the time nor energy to do it any other way! i use the gas weedeater around the flower beds(still that is roughly 200 lf) to prevent overspray( i killed my wife's flowers and never heard the end of it!), but other than that it is pure chemical weed control.

Hi, I think that extra power in a trimmer is OK. The issue is weight. I have a Honda and it is 31 cc. I use it with a heavier line 0.105 inch. I have never used a saw blade with it. So long as you are happy weight wise then I would go for a more powerful one. The honda I use to hack weeds too. I saw your other posts too. I think straight shaft is better unless you really like the curved shaft ones. A curved shaft tends to have more wear, because you have to transmit that power round a corner. The other thing I was apprehensive about a curved shaft is that the spinning head is nearer you. When you cut lots of debris tends to be spun off. You want to be away from that safety wise. No matter with trimmer you end up buying I recommend also getting the following items: 1) Eye protection, goggles. Essential in my view. CHeap $US 3.00 Home Depot 2) Ear muff hearing defenders. Cheap about $US 10-16 Home Depot 3) Old baseball hat to keep all that grass out of your hair :) Warmest regards, Mike.

Thats correct , just mow the grass, What I did was transplanted lirope. I have ALOT on my property. So I did this whole edge without buying plants. It was pretty long and curvy so took me 2-3 weeks to get it all finished., Doing it this way though was the lirope was small/young plants so since they was smaller they wasnt providing the shade so had to do some trimming of the bermuda trough the first of the summer., But yes when the lirope got mature/taller my work became easy, with just mowing, no edging.

Thanks, guys. Now I have to sweat it out that the weedkiller those idiot "landscape workers" sprayed all around the yard indiscriminately doesn't kill my heuchies. There are white spots all over the top leaves of several heuchies, especially my beautiful Carnival Watermelon. I hope the plants did not absorb enough systematically through those affected leaves to kill them. I do see some young leaves underneath. You out-of-town folks think that having to contend with voles and deer makes gardening challenging. How about a jerky co-op manager who forbids everything and "landscape workers" who bash into your garden edging and who can't even read labels to know how to use poisons?
