how to deal with a knotweed infestation

Hi. I have a large amount of what I believe is prostrate knotweed in my front lawn. From my internet research, I believe it is an annual weed. I have been trying to hand pull it, and it comes out relativelye easily, but it is like emptying a leaky rowboat with a thimble.

So I am thinking that I am going to overseed my lawn this fall and then apply a preemergent (probably corn gluten meal, as I am trying to do this organically) when the forsythia blooms next spring. I am not totally opposed to using chemical weed killer--in fact, I have some creeping charlie coming in from the neighbor's yard under the back fence that I am eyeing for a fall dose of weed killer, but I would rather not use it if I don't have to.

Does this seem like a plausible course of action to get rid of the knotweed?

Thanks!

Rachel
