How to diagnose lawn issues via pictures

I suspect I have p[oor drainage, but haven't
been able to find pictres of what poor drainage looks like.
I saw one picture that was similar in a book at a store. thats about it.
The lawn is dotted with 2-5" diameter islands of grass,
with 1-2" bare areas inbetween. Its growing nicely though.
soil is 50/50 sand compost, 2-8" thick, over craptacular clay.
Most areas are 4-6" thick od soil.
Lawn is sloped.

| Dear Elskunkito, Thank you very much for your inquiry. A drainage problem to me is when you have standing water in your lawn after a rain. If your lawn is one year old, your issues could be still with establishment and subsequent management (mowing, fertility, and irrigation). You need to push a new lawn in terms of fertilizing (nitrogen), and proper mowing will help the turf to fill in thin areas. Timing on the fertility will depend on your location and your grass type. Thus far I have given it very little. It has been mowed infrequently. Is that good, or bad? Will overseeding help? only one spot on the lawn gets standing water, wich will be fixed shortly. |
