Thistle/Yellow, Russian and Canadian

I have about three acres that mainly consist of wild field weeds, including Yellow starthistle, Russian and Canadian thistles. My control method has been to mow very close to the ground, within a half to one inch so that the thorn head would not have a chance to develop. I have never tried weed type chemical control, until this year, I used 41 percent concentrate Remuda at a four to one ratio, with an application rate of forty gals per acre.

My question is, when is the best time to spray and the application rate. Also what type of weed killer do you recommend for are area (central Valley, CA)to control the above mentioned Thistles, thanks in advance.
