True dog urine spots will many times be brown in the middle and growing vigorously around the brown spot due to the nitrogen in the urine. It was just too strong in the middle. Having said that, owning females is easier for the lawn lover. One can make a potty area. A small designated area, fenced off which is off to the side works well for females. They will adapt to this easy and will use this as their area. Pea gravel works very good for this. It prevents the area from becoming a mud pit and is easy on the pads of the dogs paws. Makes picking up of the stools easy too. As for the romping around and seed selection, think big dogs playing professional sports. Baseball, football, soccer players are all hard on the their fields. Most fields are a mix of Kentucky bluegrass and rye. Rye will take a beating and abuse. An aggressive KBG cultivar such as Northstar, P-105 or Emblem, spreads and fills in any voids/damage created by activity but this is all dependent on proper irrigation and feeding. Failure to irrigate will only give you a straw field in summer, which the dogs will tear up in an instant. Then when it rains, they will be romping around in mud. It can be done, even with a small yard - especially with a female.

As long as you're not leaving it on the same spot for days at a time, the grass should be fine - a little matted maybe, but fine. Any change of color should bounce back pretty quickly.

As you stated data was old.. Besides we are not adding isolated pathogens,etc into the compost.. We are adding grass clippings that might not even contain those pathogens.. I fenced my garden so I don't have to worry about anything.. How about the bird dropping landing on your vegetables? We going to throw out the whole bed because of some poop, I'll rather have a tape worm! Now a days cleanliness and sanitizers could do moreharm then good.. It's like we freaks here! I don't really wash my root crops,just throw em in the juicer! People I'm here to type this message today! People get out there and chew on some soil for sake! Don't live in a bubble! Yep, no way on earth turf grasses will grow in that much shade!! There's a couple of ways you could approach this. First, get rid of the path - not attractive and awkwardly laid out at best and plot out a better pathway that actually leads somewhere. Paths need to have a destination! Not sure what the concrete pad is to the right, but if used for a dining area or similar, that makes a reasonable destination. You could also take it all the way down to the end of the garden and create a small seating area. Make the path generously wide, fill it with wood chips and plant any variety of low growing shade plants as you like on either side. Dogs and wood chips get along well together - they are the go-to surfacing material for all the dog parks around here - and the dogs will tend to stay on the obstacle-free pathway rather than rampage through the plantings.....after you show them the ropes. If you have no need of a path through the whole garden (no destination), you could also try some hardy, woody stemmed groundcover, something that will thrive in shade, like wintercreeper, vinca or in my area, salal. Possibly even English ivy if an appropriately non-invasive species in your area. But you would need to plant in blocks protected from the dogs until the plants get established - several months at least. Very few groundcovers starts have any ability to stand up to dogs or other foot traffic immediately after planting. And if the dogs have a preferred traffic pattern already established, you may never get any groundcover successfully established in those areas - it will always show wear or usage so expect that or just make these the primary pathway.
