Filling a New Raised Bed

Hello Folks, We had a discussion a while back about companies that will deliver garden soil but I have scrolled back through 7 'pages' of threads and cannot find it.

A friend is building a new raised bed and she was planning to just buy bags of soil at HD but I think there's a better way to fill the bed. She will get some compost from Singh Farms, which is close to her but where can she get a truck load of good garden soil?

marymcp here's a link to that old thread. I just typed Soil in the Search Window and it was the first one below the pinned threads.

Keep in mind that the mulch from Singh Farms is a mulch and not a soil and should not be used as such.

Also keep in mind that soil purchased in bulk for delivery tends to not be fully composted. Thus it should be in the bed and kept moist for a 6-8 weeks before planting.

Search window? Why didn't I think of that?? Thanks thisisme. That's the one. I sent it along to my friend. And yes, I know Singh Farms is compost, not soil. It has its purpose too.

I filled up with my own aged horse manure , not mixed with any bedding.No dirt at all. Having the best tomatoes and squash ever. My corn is 8 feet tall and I planted it May 7. If she can haul a bunch of horse manure for at least half filling the beds, I'd highly recommend it. Most places would be happy to give it away, some even have tractor to load the truck.
