a wonderful dragon eye.. if you look at the green bands.. as they go around the whorl... they seem to make an eyeball .... in latin Oculus Draconis ...

first 2 years after transplant.. lost nearly every single needle ....

out searching for fall yellows today... was surprised how its color had deepened ... enjoy

can't grow any of these in the UK, they stay completly green !...so there you go Ken, things you can grow really well and I can't.

wow .... i dont know about growing them well .. they kinda take care of that themselves.. lol ..

whats your latitude blue???? i am really surprised that they dont yellow up... presuming lack of strong sun is the issue...

you grow densiflora without problem otherwise???

Yes, it seems the summers are not hot enough here for the banded densifloras, the green forms are fine otherwise.

given a thousand years ....

and a lot of adult lubrication...

i would have NEVER contemplated heat as a variable in coloration ...

would you speculate that latitude or sun intensity is also in the equation???? i mean .. technically.. you guys are way up there ....

Ken, not only are your plants beautiful, but your photography as well as your record keeping are both invaluable to the conifer society. As a fledgling collector, I salute you, GREAT work.

That's specifically the reason I came back to this thread today was to get photos for the ACS. These are the best photos I may have seen from you yet, Ken.

Thanks!

Ken, an old saying goes:

"Hard work is usually only noticed when it's not done"

Well, I try and notice when it is. Even though there are some prolific picture-posters on these great forums, you probably post more images than the rest.

Also lately you've posted some great pictures of your gardens and individual specimens. It's hard work and it IS noticed and appreciated by some.
