Hello All

Looking for some information on the Hosta "Blue Dolphin"

Nothing in the Hosta Library. Is anyone growing this one? Does anyone have any pictures? I bought one last night along with Hush Puppie, Climax, Prarie Sky, Aristocrat, and Great Arrival. I have been good up until now, but took a quick trip to the Landscape Arb with my daughter and Grandson last night and coulc't resist stopping at my favorite little Garden shop...you know the rest. Any pictures of any of these that you are growing would be fabulous, cause I really have to do some Garden editing to find homes for these...LOL

TIA

Cheryl

Shady Oaks has it on their site. There's some info there.
I just got it this year so mine is small.

    Cheryl,

I know its a dangerous question, but may I ask where you picked those up?? I'm only about 40 minutes from the MN Landscape Arboretum and it sounds like a great selection!!

    Thanks!

I always have to check out Chaska Farm and Garden, It is right where old Hwy 212 and 41 used to meet. A small place with very unusual perenials and of course hosta. They have a great selection and a sale going on right now. No mail order you have to go in person. A small place with a LOT of hostas, Put their name into Google and check out what they offer. I have to take the little 10 minute drive south from the arboreteum to see what is happening there. They also have alot of heucheras and other shade plants.

maidofshade - Thanks for heads up on Chaska Farm and Garden. Picked up 3 today - Mango Tango (last one), Roy Klehm, and Beckoning. On their site they had 6-8 others listed I was interested in, but most have sold out. Sale is buy 2 get 1.

Cheryl . .I just got my Blue Dolphin last fall and it was pretty small. Not all that big right now so probably won't do you much good. I will take a pic if you need one. My BD sure doesn't look like the Shady Oaks pic. . lol

Paul. .you bad boy. . lol I want Mango Tango. I got Roy Klehm when I got Blue Dolphin so I was very happy to see your picture. . please post pictures of your RK as it grows. I like the way you compare them as they grow. It shows nicely their stages.

    Hey Paul
Glad I could enable someone else besides myself LOL They always have a nice selection of Hostas and they also have a website that tells you what's on sale. No Mango Tango when I stopped, The way it was I had some in hand and played eenie meenie with the plants. I like Mango Tango and funny thing is Roy Klehm lost out to one that I did come home with. I will have to check back next time I am going that way. Saw some nice Heuchera there also, A friend of mine told me about the place a couple years ago, not very Big but lots of plants! They have a hosta list on their website but didn't see anything about mail-order.
    Sorry non-MN people :(

Sidney, We will all have to wait and see how this one grows, Sometimes it is a waiting game isn't it. I liked the coloring, reminds me of Aqua Velva (which I don't have...yet!)

I saw the ad for this sale in the paper today, and was wondering how the prices were? The sale sounds good, but not if the prices are too high to begin with! It would be about an hour long drive for me. Are there lots of hosta left to pick from? Will it be worth the trip? The list on their website looked great, with lots of my want list on it!

minnkim, most in 4" pots, prices 10-25, I'd say many 16-20. With third plant free, I avg about 12 a plant. I was out towards that area and they had quite a few on my list so worth checking out. Ones I did not find that were on website - Holy Mouse Ears, Silk Kimono, Sweet Innocence, Unforgettable, Olive Branch, Mama Mia, Grand Canyon, Ginsu Knife, Frosted Mouse Ears, and Cat and Mouse. If in-stock I would have picked up another three I'm sure.

Call ahead and combine a stop at Venero's which is up 41 to Shorewood from Chaska.

    Where are you coming from?

Paul, I would be coming from Annandale, so it would be quite a haul for me. A trip to the arboretum would be nice though... maybe if I can come up with one more reason to justify the drive. My wish list is quite large, because I am pretty new to the hosta mania. Right now, I only have just over 20 different varieties.

minnkim. . Now that makes me feel better. .I can see my little Blue Dolphin resembling my Aqua Velva color. Oooo . I love Aqua Velva. I hate to admit it but I have never had much time for patience. . lol

You guys are driving me CRAZY with all this buying! I have been so very good for once. . .I'M ABOUT TO FALL OFF THE WAGON AND IT'S ALL YOU PEOPLES FAULT!! God bless you one and all. . lol

I took a drive there yesterday to take advantage of their last day of the buy 2 get 1 free. I picked up Liberty, Montana Aureomarginata, Paradigm (all of which are for my parents). They also had two plants labeled Orange Marmalade--which obviously were not--but it was marked down to $10--the best part--I'm pretty sure it is Golden Meadows!!! They still have a great selection and just got some new ones in on Tuesday. Their prices seem fair to me. Thanks again for the enabeling!!

When I was there the 6 hostas I bought totaled 62.00 and change Not bad I thought and I like to see what I am buying. Paul, I have to go to Venero, maybe next week I have taken a couple of "for me" days from work and although--I am simply out of room...I would like to see their gardens! You have really put a little devilish urge in my head when I saw your post. I had always wanted to stop there, but........It is calling......and I unfortunately am weak!
Sidney I was on the wagon this year also --till I went within minutes of a very luring place, and after walking through the hostas at the arb, well you know......
