Has anyone overwintered coral vine?

I have a coral vine that has not flowered last year or this year. I stored it in a crawl space under my house last winter, and the top died all the way back. I thought it was dead, but this Spring, I saw it coming back from the tuber. It is now a small plant that has not grown like it should, and it has not flowered. I thought about leaving it in the ground this winter and mulching it, but I don't want to lose it to the freezing temps. Has anyone tried, successfully or unsuccessfully, to leave this vine in the ground over winter? To grow it in a pot and overwinter it indoors? Coral vine has heart shaped leaves and pink flowers and is supposed to grow to great lengths in a single season. I am in central AR. Thanks for the info.
