I am really wanting to experiment with a trellis. I have a small garden and I want to do watermelons in it without the fear of my watermelons eating everything. I have some dead space (space I semi cleared out next to the garden that used to be part of a bamboo grove and is impossible to dig in) and was thinking that if I made a ridge and make the vines grow into that zone that I wouldn't have to worry about making a trellis. Also, I was wondering how long it would take grapes to fill in a trellis tunnel over time. I have a section of sidewalk next to the house that would make a great 10ft trellis tunnel and I thought that grapes would be nice to fill it in. Besides grapes, what is a nice vine that you would keep? Thanks for the help!

This is the left of my garden, the area is about fifteen feet wide, probably a little wider. All the leaves will be taken care of, they are covering a stump up.
